Over the weekend, a friend tipped us off about NargoTheBort's Deviant Subculture, a live-music depot that focuses heavily on classic alt-rock; in particular, we were urged to check out this 1978 concert by Television, as the show's 16-minute version of "Marquee Moon"—here split over two tracks—was supposedly "nindblowing." At first we thought that was a typo, but after listening to the expansive (if a bit fuzzy) guitar solo, our nind was, in fact, completely blown:
Television - Friction (Live in Portland 7/2/78) [MP3, link expired]

My first exposure to Television was via the semi-official cassette The Blow-Up, on the ROIR label, an audience recording of another 1978 show. Like all ROIR releases, the sound quality was strictly two-tin-cans-and-a-string; but the build and stomp of "Marquee Moon" still ensnared me. Great, great stuff.
Nargo the Bort... wow. Gonna hafta spend a few days digging through that crate.
Also, I like how the guys in Television decided to get their drivers license pictures all taken at the same.
Totally thought this was the Verve at first glance.

Well, there used to be five of them - but Billy Ficca's hair ate the other guy.
@Jack Fear: Affirmed. ROIR cassettes are still tinny after all these years.
