Granted, posting a few tracks from the best-known Hüsker Dü album is pretty obvious—and, in light of today's anti-nostalgia trip, a little hypocritical. But take it from us: You have not wept for the future until you've overheard a 17-year-old kid identify Zen Arcade as "a song by Bush." So this one's for the children:

Hüsker Dü - Never Talking To You Again [MP3, link expired]

One of the finest albums ever released, ever, period. Side 3 is mind-altering, especially Mould's scream at the end of "Tooth Fairy & the Princess"
Interesting. I was going to post a long-winded response to that whole Beatles thing but I lost the plot along about comment 25. But I specifically name-checked Husker Du (along with Minutemen, Replacements, et al) as albums that are every bit as influential and able to stand the test of time. In fact, considering how much this stuff has been, erm, borrowed over the last decade, I'd say it's far more relevant to today's youngsters.
However, I still think New Day Rising is a better album, and that Double Nickels did indeed best this ("Take that Huskers!"). But I realize that may just be me.
Ditto on Side 3. "Somewhere," "Whatever" and the "Dreams Reoccuring" and its remix are all brilliant. If only Spot's production wasn't so goddamn tinny.
Great rekkid. But live they were nowhere near as fun as the glorious drunk, dress-wearin' catastrophe that was the Replacements.
Damn if that album cover isn't just about perfect. That said, I still reach for "Flip Your Wig" more often when I need a Du fix.
@The Riffage: What you said. There's a little filler on Zen Arcade.
@zibby:
I'll third that...
The Warners stuff ("Candy Apple Grey" "Warehouse: Songs and Stories") had moments too...I wish I had the old video of them performing when they were on Joan Rivers short-lived late night show....

I saw them down in fort lauderdale in 1985 at a small hall - ears still ringing!
