We first heard the late reggae singer-composer Jackie Mittoo on this summer's excellent Jamaica to Toronto: Soul Funk and Reggae 1967-1974, which documented the exodus of countless Jamaican musicians to the Great White North; Mittoo's "Grand Funk" was an album highlight. Next week, Light In The Attic Records is putting out Wishbone, Mittoo's long-out-of-print 1971 solo album, and it's one of our favorite reissues of the year. Two of our favorite tracks are below, and if this stuff doesn't make you grin like a dope, you have no hope.
