Karlheinz Stockhausen passed away in Kuerten, Germany, on Wednesday. The prolific composer wrote more than 300 pieces, and his groundbreaking work in electronic music influenced musicians in nearly every genre. His seven-part opera cycle Licht, which took him 25 years to complete, will be performed for the first time next year. Stockhausen was 79. [BBC]

Sad news. This evening, I will spin "Kontakte" in his memory.
This news is a punch in the stomach. He had a major ego but he was still a brilliant composer who helped make electronic music an endlessly fascinating art.
I'm surprised I didnt hear about this elsewhere--probs because he didnt do anything but make music--fucking media never covers anything relevant anymore
RIP, KS
@Fawn Leibowitz: In all fairness, Stockhausen was better known in the classical and avant-garde worlds than mainstream music. CNN.com first identified him as a celebrity featured on the Sgt. Pepper's front cover.
@Cam/ron: True, but on my Verizon web page today some exec from CBS was mentioned who just died, and no one ever heard of him
And I'm in finance, and I know a fair amount about Stockhausen, and I bet other people do too
So please dont give the media a pass! If he fucked Paris Hilton it would have made the world news...
