Did Steelheart's falsetto-tastic song "I'll Never Let You Go" kill the power ballad? The jury's still out—personally I'd say that Damn Yankees' "High Enough" and/or Bad English's "When I See You Smile" are more culpable, if only because of the "supergroup" factor both bands were trying to work—but damn, I'd forgotten how much ridiculous fun this song is to sing along with, especially that last high note. Last one to the karaoke bar has to sing "Love Of A Lifetime!" [jefitoblog]

Bad English's "When I See You Smile"
Was the song as culpable as the video?
@Ned Raggett: John Waite's hairplugs were actually the guiltiest party.
I ain't missing them at all.
See also: Warrant's "Heaven."
Firehouse's "Love of a Lifetime" killed the power ballad.
A post this morning about Steelheart by our glam-obsessed friend Maura over at Idolator got me to thinking: there has not been NEARLY enough emphasis on terrible awesome late-era hair metal around these parts lately.
I'm just waiting for DJ Sammy to make an all power ballad compilation and have a smash seller with it.
We might need to have a karaoke-off to settle this...
What! Dude! "I'll Never Let You Go" was the apotheosis of power-ballad, not its grim reaper!
