This is the second summer in a row a song has topped this chart for four months, after "Dani California."

The reason Billboard's Modern Rock chart has become more static than usual in recent years is that the radio panel is so small. There's, like, less than 90 stations nationwide reporting to it now...maybe even less than that.

And the stations that are left with enough ratings to survive/report to Broadcast Data Systems are the kind that would, say, play the same Linkin Park song for four months.

I find it ironic how these stations can claim to be "Modern Rock" when 90% of their playlist consists of the same Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Nirvana songs over and over again. There's a reason why these stations are changing format all over the place.

"Bleed It Out" will be #1 in three weeks time. Most increased plays for the third week in a row.

The chart suffers from the same problem that AC/Christian/etc. all do, and that is a low number of stations means a low variance of record plays. Stations will stick to whatever they feel is "safe".
