The above truck is parked just a few blocks away from my apartment, just in case any Astoria residents need a copy of Curtis when they're running out to pick up a spanakopita and some cigs. A nice viral-marketing technique for this record store-deprived area, but does it report to SoundScan?
(Hat tip: J. Edward Keyes.)

i'm sure it reports to soundscan the same way bands do while on tour. those numbers are always inflated big time, so I'm guessing curtis is getting 3 scans for every 1 cd sold out of that van.
so i'm sure he's got at least 9 scans by now.
i thought major labels gave up on doing the Van wrap thing awhile back. all i see now are lame independent rap and rock bands using them and plastering their myspace addresses all over them.
Well, maybe when there are no more record stores left in, oh, 6 months, we'll all be buying CDs out of the backs of vans.
Still, is "Rap album promoted with wraparound promo van" really a newsflash worth posting?
@GovernmentNames: i didn't want to say it... lol
That reminds me, I should go buy "Curtis".
No, but wait. 50 Cent fucking sucks.
Pffft. Nice rims.
My understanding is that if you approach the van, you actually get yanked into it, blindfolded, driven around aimlessly for 20 minutes and told to "take back the fuckin' Kanye CD, right now, bitch," or the like.
you see, commenters who neither read the story nor look at its accompanying picture for more than a second, the van actually SELLS the cd.
which i think is newsworthy
"lol"
Don’t live near a Virgin Megastore? Too primitive to use iTunes? It’s all good, Curtis will bring his new CD to you. The van above was spotted by Idolator sitting on a street in Astoria Queens. So this what it’s come to Curtis?
Another non-sports related post, except that, damn it, this is serious man to man combat here. This is a bigger battle than anything happening in sports right now!The background, once again: This past Tuesday (yesterday), the two biggest names in hip-hop in terms of album sales, Kanye West...
i read it, and i've seen vans like this before. it's not really a new concept.
