Before copyright scholars and trademark lawyers got their mitts on those old Parliament twelve-inches, the world of sampling was like the wild West, with outlaw heroes Hank Shocklee and Prince Paul ransacking their vinyl archives and schooling us listeners on obscure artists and sounds. Back then, Jessica Simpson could have sampled Madonna's "Holiday," instead of just barely rewriting it.
Because Idolator misses those spot-the-steal days—and because we often hear songs that would make for a good source—we're happy to introduce "Sample Sale." Every week, we'll post a great lost cut, and let you little digital hobgoblins go crazy, twisting and tweaking it however you like. Send your best efforts to tips[at]Idolator.com, and we'll show off the best entry on Friday.
Our debut entry is from the Green Arrows, an Afropop outfit from the '70s who we'd call "groovy," if only that didn't sound like such a lame description. But seriously, "Towering Inferno" (from their gotta-have 4-Track Recording Session compilation) is pretty damn groovy; even if you don't have Garageband, you should definitely give it a listen. Happy cutting!

I really wanted to read this. But each time I tried to read down the page, my eyes were inevitably drawn back to that image of a cat scratching a record with its paw.
I could look at that all day. God bless that cat.
Somebody call Ted Nugent, because a pun-bomb just went off in the photo above.
Talk about a blast from the past -- I had completely forgotten about this picture. That's my old cat!
Here's my submission, http://upload.ohshare.com/v/7135931/TOWER_INFERNO_REMIX.mp...
