Led Zeppelin Reunion Might Be Happening...Just Not Right Now

Led Zeppelin's promoter says that unscrupulous nogoodniks have begun announcing Zep reunion concerts that don't actually exist and happily taking the money of "Stairway" fans But, as the NME reports, he has not necessarily come out and said the three remaining Zeppelins won't be reuniting for legit reunion gigs yet to be announced:

"There have been at least four events advertised which I suspect either don't exist or where no tickets are on sale or indeed dates finalized," he explained. "These are the very people whom our industry has spent over a year trying to convince the DCMS to instigate outlawing."

He added: "The media should consider the consequences of giving credibility to those who rip the public off.

"There are no packages or tickets for some the events advertised at all, nor do some of the events even exist. We are concerned that the public will be fleeced. The bottom line is that unless official adverts have appeared for concerts, tickets are not on sale. Do not buy from unauthorised sources."

What about bands ripping off the public with legitimate, authorized, quite expensive reunion shows after a crucial member is long dead and buried? No offense to Jason Bonham, the rumored replacement for his deceased dad on drums should the band actually get back together, but the comparison barely rates a chuckle. The sad thing is that if a Zeppelin reunion did make it to America backed with a drum machine, I'd probably still buy a ticket.

  • I kept waiting for the part in the interview with the promoter when he asked if anyone remembers laughter.

  • "What about bands ripping off the public with legitimate, authorized, quite expensive reunion shows after a crucial member is long dead and buried?"

Or legitimate, authorized, quite expensive reunion shows with living members shut out? Or even apparently authorized shows where the non-singing members wrangled name rights away from the singer and hit the road without him? Or...?

Am I the only one wishing bands, no matter how much I love them, would just stay broken the fuck up?

  • PS, the *only* exception to this rule is Mission of Burma who didn't break up due to the standard issue "we got too popular/drunk/stoned and started hating each other" and have actually made records as vital as their older material even with a slight membership change.
