So Lupe Fiasco's The Cool—out Dec. 18, just in time for all you last-minute holiday shoppers—has a song that I think is breaking new ground as far as "songs written from the perspective of [x]" go:
Perhaps the oddest song is 'Gotta Eat,' which is apparently written from the perspective of a cheeseburger and is rife with food/life metaphors.
A cheeseburger? I think this is the first song I've heard of that's written from the perspective of a foodstuff—sure, you have food-referencing songs, but lyrical content that's purportedly from the POV of, say, a nice jumbo slice of pizza? As Matthew Perpetua just remarked, "That sounds like something Randy Newman would write." Sure, maybe! Anyway, if you can think of any other songs that use this conceit, feel free to post them in the comments. (And no, "Suck My Left One" doesn't count.)

Some of the early 80's anarcho-punk bands would write songs about animals being killed and turned into food, although I suppose then only the second half of the song would fit the criteria. I guess "Torture Me" by CAPTAIN SENSIBLE would be the most widely released.
It sounds like something Paul McCarthy OR Paul McCartney might write -- although I assume if either of 'em did, it'd be for very different reasons.
Surely the Fat Boys have done this?
So...basically Lupe has recorded the hip-hop version of Cluckin' Chicken...?
