Panic! At The Disco lead singer turns 21, has "rock musos bonding session" with Adam Duritz. Between this and their cover of "The Weight" at the Reading Festival, I'm starting to think that the "Sam's Town-o-meter" on these kids' next album should be set to red alert. [Pop Eater]

  • Ironically, Adam Durtiz does look a little bit like Jesus.

  • I, too, have long feared that P!ATD's new record will be both terrible and completely superfluous.

With My Chemical Romance [The Black Parade] and Fall Out Boy [Infinity On High] having completely shed/rendered-meaningless the "emo" label with terrific mainstream rock-and-roll records, what really is the point of these "second[?]-tier" and wannabe acts like P!ATD, 30 Seconds To Mars, The Red Jumpsuit Aparatus, etc., etc.

Having said all that, I want to join the parade of commenters heaping props on Idolator today. Maura, "...I'm starting to think that the "Sam's Town-o-meter" on these kids' next album should be set to red alert" is pure, unadulterated brilliciousness.

  • @DHMBIB: I think The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is more a third or fourth tier band.

Anyway, more bands need to stop trying to pull the new-sound-follow-up-album thing that's been all the rage this year. My Chem pulled it off, and FOB managed it alright, but tons of bands (The Academy Is..., New Found Glory, The Starting Line, Cartel) have tried and failed miserably.

I'm all for growing as a band, or whatever these acts are trying to do, but why go from being a perfectly passable pop punk band to a thoroughly mediocre vanilla rock band? Stick to what you do well, already.

I blame blink-182. That song about the Nightmare Before Christmas characters ruined everything.

  • @KurticusMaximus: re: your parentheses, I've only heard *of* the first two bands you mention. That can't be a good sign for them.

  • has anyone noticed that all the bands that ultragrrrrl 'made famous' are horrid??
    how now, village voice/ spin??

  • @TheMojoPin: Hahaha, I love you.
