People who want to have songs in the voicemail messages they send, but who are too uncoordinated to put their phone next to their stereo and hit "play" at the right time, can now shell out $1-$3 to use a licensed song from the Universal Music Group as their greeting on the GetABuz service. Seriously, have we hit the bottom of the barrel yet as far as ways that record companies can grub for money? I just hope this doesn't mean that I'm finally going to get dinged with an infringement lawsuit for having that 15-second snippet of "Ignition (Remix)" as my outgoing voicemail message. Hot and fresh out the kitchen, indeed.
Believe me, it's worse than you know... my cellphone provider offers a product called "Answer Rings," not to be confused with Ring Tones. This service lets you purchase songs to play for your callers instead of the standard ringing noise.
this is nowhere near the bottom of the barrel for record companies. at least not until they find a way to successfully dice up the physical corpses of dead musicians and rock stars and sell them one by one.
see that's pretty close to the bottom.
you have an r kelly song on your outgoing message and it ISNT "leave your name" ??
Answer Rings are all the rage in China and Japan. Everyone I called while I was over there had them. You can even select different songs depending on who the caller is. This is for people who spend way to much time tweaking their phone settings...
actually its way better and easier than trying to hit the 'play' button on your stereo at the right time. the getabuz site gives you control over the relative volume of your voice and the music and the overall quality is significantly better. it's also not just for voicemail greetings...you can send messages to other people (like a birthday message) and it is delivered into their voicemail without the phone ringing, which is pretty nifty and more fun than boring old e-cards. the first greeting you do is also free so no need to fork out $$'s. yeah, not for everyone, but i know a lot of teens who will be all over this.
