Tonight, The Curse Of Sting Finally Claims Its Least Memorable Victim

sting.jpgLast year, we theorized that there may be a so-called "Curse Of Sting," and noted that just about every non-musical entity Gordo touches tends to end in catastrophe. We based part of the idea on the fact that Sting (lute in tow) was one of the first musical acts on the doomed Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip.

Well, it took months for the curse of Sting to hold, but tonight, Studio 60 officially bites it (if you're wondering what happens, here's a summary: Someone walks through a hallway ranting about terrorism, blue vs. red states and how comedy writers were the real victims of 9/11). Anyhoo, it couldn't have happened to a worse show, but let's pause for a moment and remember Aaron Sorkin's many musical highlights this season, which included Corrine Bailey Rae's somnambulitical warblings; Macy Gray's non-appearance appearance; and one episode where they played Eagle-Eyed Cherry, albeit in flashback form. Their cameos were consistently negligible, but at least they were funnier than Dolphin Girl.

  • Y'know a lot of people used the Sting appearance as evidence of how unhip and out of touch the show was, but Matthew Perry's character was totally in the right age/income bracket to talk about how much he loves "Fields Of Gold." Hell, I'm young and broke and I kinda like that song.
