It's not too uncommon for me to have days where all I want to listen to is 14-minute jags of Nick Cave freaking out, which is one of the many reasons why "Babe, I'm On Fire" is among my favorite songs of all time. The video—where Cave and his bandmates in the Bad Seeds play almost every single one of the people name-checked in the song—is not always in the best taste, or safe for your guaranteed employment (then again, few 14-minute videos are), but man, does listening to it really loud almost make working at home worth the crushing loneliness!

Everything I Love:
1: Blixa
2: The Bad Seeds playing for 14 minutes
3: Their sick sense of humor
4: Nick reading the lyric sheets
5: Lanky gyrating
Thanks for that.
@rogerniner: I'm pretty sure he read the lyric sheets when I saw him live too. It's a lot to remember, obv!
More 14 minute Nick Cave videos, less Britney Spears and "Writing About Music Writing" posts.... ok?
@maura: Oh for sure, but I love the scholarly musician/lyricist/karaoke vibe that it juxtaposes with the Seeds being their naughty 12 year old selves. Again, thank you. Now to find a live performance of "The Curse Of Milhaven"...
@dog door: Finger on the pulse.
@dog door: We desperately need the context. Music is awesome/Music is horrifying.
HOLY SHIT.
This video is, to use the young people's vernacular, MADE OF WIN.
@Nicolars: seriously. this blog shines in the edgy and obscure but then, oh, another t-pain post.
wait, nick cave is obscure?
wait, obscurity is a value?
Obvs, we are rubbing off on you. (; Hooray for Nick Cave.
That being said, wish I was listening to this on speakers and not headphones right about now.
Idolator has shone a quite a harsh light on the new music media cycle, one with which I never paid any attention too, but I am now grimly fascinated with the ins and outs of the sinking industry/blog hype cluster bomb that is emerging Akira-like out of the internet. Consider Nick Cave a treat after witnessing the strange state of affairs the music world is in. Thanks for the snack, Maura...
ohh...how that made me smile.
Thanks so much for this. And add me to the list of those who want more Nick Cave!
A great Nick Cave video, indeed, though for straight-up laughs I prefer the "No, seriously, I'm sober, I swear" cover of In The Ghetto:
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - In The Ghetto
Or how about those great duets with Shane?
Shane MacGowan & Nick Cave - What A Wonderful World
@jessdolator: obscurity is a value insofar as... say there are a few major stories in the music world. Brittney's 'comeback'... new Eagles album... someone throwing a show at Arcade Fire. Whatever. I can go read a blog that I know will be giving me angles on these stories all week, or I can go read a blog that I know will throw up something abscure like a 14 minute Nick Cave video or a Helium video. I value that more than just what everyone else is paying attention to.
And yeah, Nick Cave is obscure, relative to the bands that get the most ink here (50 cent, Brittney, etc) I know he's a "name", but how many people are real familiar with his body of work?
