the video is amazing, although is it just me or has nostalgia completely taken over? (Cool Kids, Ronson, etc).

the backing track reminds me a lot of "Bliss" by Alan Braxe/Fred Falke project DEFENDER (mainly because of the flutes)... which is AWESOME.

Man, the 70s/80s throwback video is as old as "Last Nite" -- the only cache here is that you don't see rappers doing it very often.

The whole "irony thing" is pretty tired. At this point, all these hey-look-how-cheesey-shit-was nostalgia trips are really just another kind of poor substitue in place of where a decent original idea might have gone. I mean, even the Backstreet Boys navigated the smooth, safe waters of the corny nostalgia video...like three years ago. That should have been the final nail.

Or, alternately, video budgets have cratered to the point where they'll all start looking like 70s/80s videos again anyway.

The song and video for Snoop Dogg's "Sensual Seduction" is doing things to me. I never liked Snoopy like that, but I'd definitely let him blow weed smoke into my a-hole anytime, anyplace, anywhere. Damn, I want to work the corner for him and run from the police in 8-inch platform heels.

The only thing missing from this video was a Christy Canyon cameo.

Ha, very good point. Before long all music videos will practically be made on cell phone cameras. Get used to that grainy effect/poor lighting.

I agree with KINGHATER (no surprise that he is hating on this video...) that nostalgia is defintely a poor substitute for originality, which is why I automatically dislike Cool Kids, Ronson-produced stuff, etc. But in this case, I think Snoop pulls it off, simply because his persona has always been about this era. And also, the video is extremely well-executed, not to mention the fact that the song fits the vibe perfectly.

We all know hip-hop will crash and burn in the next couple of years, a la 80s metal. Where else was it to go but back to the 70s?

Chromeo works. This is a self-absorbed whiff in their funky direction.

Frankly I view it as a positive thing if more people are taking their cues from chromeo and/or t-pain. If there's one thing a lot of music hasn't been in recent years, it's smooth. I, for one, welcome this return to smooth, synthy, disco-funk sound. What can I say, I love struttin'.

Classic! And I am in complete agreement in wanting a return to the smooth disco-funk. After being bombarded with the glitchy synth stabs of Justice and the rest of Ed Banger all summer, we all need to lay off the meth and just chiiiiilllll. As I mentioned above, check out the track "Bliss" by DEFENDER.
