Last night I found myself in a large Times Square games-and-fried-stuff emporium for some skee-ball and beers, and I was somewhat surprised to hear "Chewing Gum" by Annie, a fluffy pop confection that made a bit of an Internet splash a few years ago. And much to my delight, it sounded pretty great after having not heard it for so long; the delicate melody even shone through the chatter and beeping of the room. But today I was trying to figure out what she's been doing since Anniemal ran through its promo cycle, and recent news on her seems to be scarce—the story that she was working with James Iha on her next record apparently broke back in March 2006, her MySpace blog was last updated in December 2005, although her page is still receiving comments pretty regularly. Anyone got a lead? Or, at the very least, the Bubble Pop mix of "Gum"?

I'm not sure if it ever got released, but Annie had an "indie" sounding single that made the rounds last year to not much notice. I remember listening to it once and deleting it.

I also heard Annie on a DMX/Muzak thing somewhere recently, and realized that I'd heard nothing from her since that Teddybears "remix"/collabo LAST SEPTEMBER; I also seem to remember that she played a gig at Northsix after I moved to NYC in December '06, but I could be making that up. Either way, that's an eternity in blog-time. Dude, is she a first victim of Stereogumitis?
I can't believe I know this, but she's been working with Richard X, I think, and she had a new logo leak to Popjustice recently. I think she might have an album scheduled for release early next year?
She put out a DJ Kicks mix about a year ago of so that had a couple new tracks on it, and she played an excellent set at the 2006 Intonation festival.

@cassidy2099: If my iTunes records are accurate, I downloaded the DJ Kicks album (I totally forgot about that! "Wedding" off the album is quality) in November 2005, so it's been almost 2 years.
And the last time I listened to anything by Annie was January 2006. Maura's right - her stuff is pretty great after you haven't listened to her in a while.
For once, Wikipedia turned out useful here. Her wiki reports:
"On January 17, 2007, Annie signed an international deal with Island Records, owned by Universal Music Group. She is expected to release her first full-length album on the label in late 2007. Brian Higgins is confirmed as one of the album's producers, as is Richard X, believed to have written the songs "Two Hearts" and "Songs Remind Me Of You" towards the album."

Around this time last year Arjan Writes posted a cover Annie did of The Teddybears' "Yours To Keep".
It's a pretty great track - superior to the original in my opinion.
