Videodrone: Janet Jackson, "So Excited"

Janet Jackson's body of music videos, from the Herb Ritts-lensed clip for "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" to the military workout "Rhythm Nation," is one of the most outstanding of the MTV era—just ask Beyonce's choreographer. Her new single, the Herbie Hancock-sampling "So Excited," is barely making a dent at radio, so it needed a new lease on life—preferrably with a clip that could solidfy her reputation as one of pop's most durable stars. Unfortunately, the video for "So Excited" (which apparently takes place at Tyler Durden's old house) is an absolute mess, especially because its main hook seems to be a wardrobe that morphs away at any given moment. Finally, something that makes "Scream" look like a model of computer-graphics restraint.
