Idolator
Despite having an incurable crush on all parties involved (the only member of the Fall that really counts, two mice from Mars), for some reason I totally slept on the Von Sudenfed record until this very weekend. (It looks like Idolator slept on VS in general, unless this counts. Which it don't.)
Which is a crime against the readership, because if there's one thing every American (and otherwise) needs in their lives, it's a 50-something English crank vituperatively mumbling over alarm clock noises and broken electro-rock from two Germans. Hell, despite the fact that he still slurs the intro like a constipated homeless man, "The Rhinohead" even manages to make Mark E. sound melodic enough to slot in a playlist with your This Is Next favorites. The tranny-tastic video for "Fledermaus Can't Get It" is the perfect visual metaphor for the band's sound: rough, homely dudes squeezing themselves into gold lame fabulousness, and not quite getting there.

I played the shit out of this record on a few long drives this summer. It kinda falls apart in the second half, but still a solid 7/10 probably...which means it's as good or better than the last couple Fall albums.
i love the hell out of this album. once i got over the fact that it sounds *exactly* like you imagine it would on paper, rather than being some new, totally independent juggernaut of sound, i realized i was in love.
