The High School Musical 2 soundtrack held on to the No. 1 slot on this week's album-sales charts, dipping 22% to 165,000 units sold; the album was not only the sole record to sell more than 100,000 copies in the last week, it was also the only album to break the 50,000 mark. And to make matters even more frightening, the No. 2 album was Fergie's The Dutchess, which was off 4% and sold 49,000 copies. Eep!
Biggest Debuts: Chiodos' Bone Palace Ballet entered at No. 5, selling 39,000 copies; the next debut, Every Time I Die's Big Dirty, was way further down the chart, at No. 41.
Notable Jumps: The Justin Timberlake show on HBO may not have been a favorite of Jess', but it did apparently inspire a few people to pick up FutureSex/LoveSounds; the album had a 38% sales bump last week, enough to move it up to No. 12. Also, Colbie Caillat's Coco, which topped the digital sales chart with 12,000 e-copies sold, had a 27% sales boost and jumped from No. 29 to No. 14.
Dropping Off: Yung Joc's Hustlenomics took a 60% sales hit, but thanks to the lousy sales week, he only dropped from No. 3 to No. 11.
Nickelback Award For Inexplicable Durability: This week's charts are so dismal that it's hard to think of anyone—save the High School Musical crew—as "durable," but let's give it up for this category's namesake, who, despite taking an 8% sales hit, fell up to No. 8 (from No. 10) this week.

You know what would help? If music didn't suck right now.
I will never give it up for Nickelback, Maura. Unless it's something like, "Nickelback just found the edge of the earth and fell off! Give it up!"
Who knew that Yung Joc's "It's Goin' Down" would prove such a premonition of future chart action?
@kaate: For what it's worth, all that this means is that the sales expectations for their next album will be even MORE unreasonable, therefore all but guaranteeing a flop (real or perceived) that should send their career into a long-deserved death spiral.
@Halfwit: As long as states like Indiana, Idaho, Oklahoma, and South Dakota exist, Nickelback will ALWAYS be around.
@babystrange72: I've got news for you: You can blame states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, too. There's a reason why we call Nickelback "Volvo rock." It's being pumped in SUVs and minivans in suburbs nationwide.
[shudders]
Early word is, Kanye's got a solid lead in this week's horserace, even leading Chesney by as much as 100K, to say nothing of Fiddy.
@babystrange72: Then our course of action is clear. Much as I love my native Oklahoma (actual state motto: "Oklahoma is okay"), all these states must be destroyed. Blood alone moves the wheels of history!
@RickSlick: Where in Oklahoma? My grandparents live in Bartlesville. Are you more of a Kansan or Texan? This is how I judge Oklahomans, mainly.
@kaate: Tulsa, born and raised, so probably more Kansan. Bartlesville is neat; that little Frank Lloyd Wright skyscraper is just so freaking darling.

@RickSlick: Nice! My grandmother loves the Wild Fork.
And believe me, I'm familiar with Price Tower.

@kaate: Oh, the Wild Fuck, as we so amusingly called it. I did dishes there one summer. My grandmother loves that place too. "These are endives. Do you know what endives are? It's lettuce. From Belgium."
@BABYSTRANGE72, sigh as much as I hate to admit it, you're totally right about Indiana. Just yesterday, someone was talkign about Nickleback "when they were good" and I have to bite my tounge to avoid the obvious "they were never good" retort.
