I mean, it's the only explanation for Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry (Personal)" being the channel's No. 1 video for 2007. Right? Right? Also in the top five: Daughtry's "It's Not Over," Pink's "U + Ur Hand," "Umbrella," and that Maroon 5 video where they're getting their Hall & Oates on while on a plane. Full list after the jump, but for now, etc., etc.
THE GOOD: Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right"—the best freestyle song of the past decade—lands at No. 7. Regina Spektor's lovely "Fidelity" squeaks in at No. 38. Carrie Underwood's super-smashy "Before He Cheats" is on there. And that Pink video is kinda fun. (Bonus: Depending on where you hear "U + Ur Hand," different lyrics—including the titular hand—get bleeped out!)
THE BAD: Two Nickelback videos. Two Daughtry videos. Two Fergie videos. Linkin Park. Colbie Caillat. The OneRepublic Phil Collins homage. That Bon Jovi "country" single that was basically Jon sleepwalking his way through a quieter version of "Never Say Goodbye." An Avril ballad. If you ever wanted to argue that pop this year had as much bad as it had good—if not more!—this list would be an excellent place to start.

VH1's Top 40 Videos Of 2007 [The Music Slut]

Comments
What I'm curious about, that neither the Music Slut blog or the VH1 site is clear about, is how this list was compiled. Is is it just the channel's 40 most played videos straight up, or based on the weekly top 20 countdown compiled by website votes, or based on a whole seperate yead-end vote? Either way, I've watched way too much of the channel this year and am not surprised by anything on this list. More shamefully, I like almost half of these songs.
The Fergie selection is even more mystifying considering they played that delightfully colorful Feist video more often this year, by 14 "spins" (so far).
@GovernmentNames: It's definitely not by the number of showings alone, since they don't match up all that well...the top five by that metric would be Nickelback, Maroon 5, Feist, Fergie, then Gwen.
Oh, it hurts. It hurts so bad.
Although VH1 became E! to the thousandth power, I don't see MTV doing any music related specials with semi-witty or even remotely-humorous banter. So kudos to VH1. MTV, keep your drink, just give me the money!
@GovernmentNames: I'm pretty sure this is based off of their VSpot Top 20, which is calculated via Internet voting.
@maura: Or, you know, gladhanding and favor-trading.
@DanGibson:
Don't they combine the votes with the singles'/albums spots on Billboard? I could've sworn they mention that during each episode of the Top 20 countdown... even though I haven't bothered watching it since, uh, 2002.
@rhythmchyc: My guess is that it's totally arbitrary based on which label rep bought the best lunch that week, but I could be totally wrong.
@DanGibson:
Isn't everything in this business?
@rhythmchyc: It's how I wanted to compile my Idolator end of year list, but it didn't really pan out.
Jess, "Umbrella" would've been number 1 if you had robo-voted for it like everyone else asked you to.
Meanie...
Yeah, I watched it because it had Milo Ventimiglia without a shirt. I'll happily admit it. I will also admit that Milo shirtless was the second-best part about "Heroes" this season. The best, of course, was David Anders.
MILO VENTIMIGLIA SUCKS
@WhosWho: So have I. I overcame a lot of Fergie hate just for a little shirtless Milo.
@Nicolars: Thirded.
I admit, I wasn't digging Peter Petrelli on Heroes much, even when shirtless. Howevs., Milo V. as an E. LA vato...yowza! I had to watch it w/the sound off, tho, and fast forward thru the Fergie-only parts. I can't stand that ubiquitous she-gnome.
