Zach Braff's "Paste" Magazine Cover: You May Not Want To See This So Early In The Morning

EDITOR 1: So there's this movie, Garden State? I mean, it's a few years old, but that guy who directed it, he also picked the soundtrack...
EDITOR 2: Oh man, my wife loves that soundtrack...
EDITOR 1: I know! It's such a great work-out CD. I mean, it's like a mix tape or something.
EDITOR 2: Totally like a mix tape. After I first heard that album, I was like, 'What's a Remy Zero, and where can I go to find out more?"
EDITOR 1: Look, boss: I know we had Darius Rucker and Josh Groban booked already, but let's give this guy the cover. He's everything we want the magazine to be: Young, super plugged-in. I mean, this is a guy who bought Parachutes...back when it was an import.
EDITOR 2: And we can even use that tagline from the movie. Let's do it!

The worst cover since they took that picture of Truman Capote taking a dump.

  • From that exchange alone I get the feeling the editors are anxiously awaiting another Sister Hazel record and really like the new Keane record...

  • It doesn't help that cover that Meloy looks like he should be in the balcony with Statler and Waldorf.

  • I find the sort of music that Paste champions a little tiresome, but c'mon, they've never had a cover story nearly as irrelevant as Darius Rucker.

  • When Garden State came out there was this neighbor of mine that I invited to a party I was hosting. She asked me to "pop in the Garden State soundtrack. It's a real crown pleaser!" Not knowing what I was about to do, I "popped it in". After about 10 minutes, every person who wasn't didn't arrive with her slowly moved the party to the back yard. That shit made me turn 39 in about 10 minutes.

  • What do the people who paid for Garden State movie and soundtrack look like?
I've yet to meet one person who has heard the soundtrack or seen the movie. Do these people exist or is this some kind of media manipulation experiment?

  • It's true. I subscribe to Paste and when I opened my mailbox and saw that cover, my stomach turned. The article and accompanying photos are more of the same sort of awful. He is a smug, doleful ass. Please continue with your various Braff-lash posts -- they are a little bit of sane in a Garden State-riding world of yupster bullshit.

  • I would guess fans of the Garden State soundtrack look like the guy in upper right corner of the Braff cover. He's that guy from Decemberists and I find his photo (and the group's music) just as disturbing.

  • I would imagine that Garden State fans look like the guy in the upper right corner of the Braff cover. It's that guy from Decemberists and I find his photo (and music) equally disturbing.

  • Braff wants to bring David Cross on Scrubs. I hope Braff doesn't start making yupster alternative comedy compilations.

  • man, i've been trying to explain my feelings re: Braff to most everyone i know. i try to do it without sounding like a total hater or a bitch, but even so, all i get are confused expressions. when i first read your Braff-lash post, i felt less bitchy...and a little less alone.

  • Hey look.. you are all totally harshing my vide. The Shins totally changed my life.

  • Looks both ways...

I bought Parachutes as an import.

  • Speaking as someone who has not only seen and hear both Garden States (movie/soundtrack), and owns them all - let me be the first to say;

DEAR GOD! NOT IN THE FACE!

  • Actually, I would love the Muppet Show to be back on so The Decemberists could play with them, that would be so fucking brilliant my head would explode.

    Goddamn Weezer doing it first.

  • would we rather iron and wine on this soundtrack or in an m & m's commercial? which is the latter of the two evils?
