.....SNL's long been famous for humbling hit bands. I don't know if it's the room, sabotage, or just the band being tight, but often the worst performance of any band is when they're on SNL. My vote for absolute worst was when the Rolling Stones "Beast of Burden" back in the 1970s. Horrid.

.....I'd rather hear missed notes than anyone pulling an Ashlee, though!

AcidReign

I'm loving the album, mostly "teenagers."

But "cancer" is the one song that makes me alternate between snickering at the lyrics and thinking "wow, I'm like 15 years old to be into this band and not be ashamed of myself."

Seriously, I cant stop playing "Teenagers" at high volume. Yeah, it is derivative of T-rex and glam in general. But a lot of people have tried to imitate T-Rex and none of them sound that good doing it.

drjimmy11

The missuz and I love these guys and especially the new hit, and so we plunked down to watch this all excited.

But the moment we felt let down was when Gerard couldn't hit the high note on the chorus. Seriously, this is not a small matter - the whole key to the song's greatness is that note he hits on "We'll CAR-ry on!!" and he totally dumped it.

I'm with joe bananas that this doesn't dim my appreciation for the song (or, potentially, the album) much, but it definitely tarnishes it a bit. Then again, Kelly Clarkson couldn't really hit all the notes on the immortal "Since U Been Gone" when she was on SNL. Damn you, ProTools!

Chris Molanphy

Based on all the interviews, these guys inexplicably believe that "Cancer" is, quite literally, one of the best songs ever.

They have, on more than one occasion, called it "difficult to listen to" (in the too-emotional sense, not the sounds-awful sense).

This is rather disappointing, especially since there are so many better songs on the album (namely, every other song on the album).

One thing to look forward to- they recorded two videos simultaneously a couple months ago, one for "Welcome to the Black Parade," and one for some other song ("House of Wolves," I think). During the filming of the second video, so many of the band members were injured that there were rumors that they got in a car accident.

Apparently the video is basically them playing the song in front of a wall of fire, and they all went nuts. The drummer got seriously burned on his leg, and the rest of the band basically just collided/tackled/destroyed each other. So, that should be fun to watch when it is released.

KurticusMaximus

i have gone from being completely ambivalent about black parade to totally loving it in about three days. this performance was a let down, but doesn't change my love for the album.

for my money, the best musical performance on this ep. was the will ferrell/john c reilly (aka sean c reilly) duet.

joe bananas

I couldn't agree more. When I saw them come out on stools for the second song, I knew that there would be no fist pumping, rock-star posing, lets-change-the-world-with-rock-and-roll statements being made. That is what I came to see, and that is why I am getting excited about this band.

Matt
