Of course the fact the only play L.A. and New York might just answer my question, so maybe I should just take it back.

I'll agree with that. They are lucky enough to have a deal, but if you want fans and you aren't getting tons of radio airplay you have to actually play. And play in more than just NYC and LA. There's a whole lot of the country that buys records that aren't in either of those locales.
It's too bad folks would pass on them just because of their connections. And it still doesn't explain why the wider public has totally missed the boat. 99.99999% of the populace has no idea who Ultragrrl is.

Plus, what has Sarah ever done but try to champion bands? Sure, sometimes her tastes clash with mine but at least she seems to honestly dig the things she does.

I mean, if someone wants to attack a band just because of their connections, you need look no further than The Oohlas guitarist, ex-Everlcear drummer Greg Eklund. of course attacking a band because of that would involve overlooking whether they were actually any good or not, and kind of betray a less than critical interest in commentary, but hey, to each their own, right?

tankboy

"Small Parts" - that song rules. When I listen to this record, I can't help but think of Echobelly, Lush, and Sleeper. Obscure 90's female-led Britpop bands are where it's at, yo.

Emo Sommelier

Tankboy, you underestimate the unfortunate stigma of an Ultragrrl.

I think this album is a whole lot of fun and can not for the life of me figure out why it's been met with such a collective yawn. When I spin songs off the disc into my DJ set foljks seem into them, so why is there no buzz?

Of course the fact the only play L.A. and New York might just answer my question, so maybe I should just take it back.

tankboy
