(Not that my heart bleeds for either of them.)

Basically, it's a situation similar to the movie business, when Brad Grey took over Paramount and realized he had no movies in the pipeline, so he had to acquire DreamWorks. The guys who took over Sony Music have no idea what they're doing, and they need to poach some high-profile svengali type to keep acts from signing someplace else.
