Hip-hop has taken it on the chin sales-wise the last two years; weirdly, R&B is up for 2007 so far, but that's only if you include left-field Stabucks types like Corrine Bailey Rae and honkie interloper Robin Thicke. R&B/hip-hop are such singles-driven genres, and the labels have obviously gotten leery of throwing big promo money behind an album release if the purported "hit" doesn't connect.
