@dennisobell: Granted, Radiohead fans love to mix and match like everyone else. However, Radiohead fans are more likely to PURCHASE the album in a single block than Britney fans, who would definitely seek to find the 2 or 3 "real" singles before ever thinking of spilling for the entire album (surprising facts concerning the falsehod of Britney as a "singles" artist aside).

I put "There There" in my mixes, but I still bought "Hail to the Thief" the day it dropped.

Halfwit

@Halfwit: So by that rationale, I guess if the new, all-digital Radiohead are serious about this "the album, and nothing but the album" strategy, they'll release their new opus as one long, Lovesexy-like track. Right?

'Cuz that's what the "dedicated fan base" wants: the whole album. They don't want to rip just one or two songs to their iPhone or put a favorite track on a mixtape, do they?

Or maybe even the rabid fan is human, has evolved since 2003, and likes to have control over his favorite Radiohead songs, just like everybody else.

Chris Molanphy

@dennisobell: I think Radiohead is in a MUCH better position to face the realities of the "new music industry" than Britney is. They're without a label, looking to release their newest album independently (and, in all likelihood, digitally), and they have a dedicated fan base who will actually pay money for albums that they may already own (see: Pink Floyd)

Halfwit
