Jimmy Buffet needs no ironic filter to enjoy. Though I gotta say, most of his music does give me the mental image of a woman in Mom Jeans with one hand in the air and one hand holding a rapidly spilling pineapple margarita, with her eyes closed and yelling "Whooooo!" Mom! You're embarassing me!

Also, have you ever seen Marvin Gaye singing the National Anthem? It'll make you love America, but like with boner love.

RickSlick

Great selection of videos.

Watching the Mac I think it's important to point out that too often they are relegated to "that band on the light rock station with that one album that sold a zillion copies" status. It's worth mentioning that, The Dance not withstanding, they were an intense rock act.

Coke-nose or no, Stevie rules that stage in a way that would kill most contemporary pop starlets. And she's probably got enough narcotics in her system to do the same. There's a raw sexual intensity to that performance that makes even a lucid Britney Spears performance (who can remember?) seem like a joke.

Dr. Marv

Thanks for the righteous Dolly video, Kate! I've come very close to ordering "Hee-Haw" DVDs off of infomercials for want of more of exactly this type of performance. Compare that to the lip-synched, 'Luded-up Tammy Wynette "Stand By Your Man" videos floating around out there... yikes.

Also, Dolly's "Halos & Horns" tour in 2002? Best show I've ever seen.

girlhappy
