I interviewed Bob Guccione Jr. in the early '90s for my college paper, and he confessed to me that, even while he designed the magazine for people a decade or two younger than him, he was often hopelessly unhip and pushed to put the wrong people on the cover; his example was (no joke) John Mellencamp, who got a SPIN cover in the early '90s long after even Rolling Stone would've enshrined him.

And hey, at this point, Boss is not much more decrepit than Bono, who appears on the front of SPIN an average of every 18 months.

The Arcade Fire needs to spend a week with Tommy Stinson, the man who told Bob Dylan "five bucks, fucker" when Zimmerman politely asked for a beer. And then bought a house with a few minutes of forever-lost bass playing for the Red One.
