Heads-up for anyone reading this who has a passing interest in all things charty: I'll be dedicating this week's "100 and Single" to Billboard's year-end charts (and dropping it one day later than usual, Friday). Those charts will take more or less what you see here and throw radio into the mix, which should be interesting.

The placement of (word to Nicolars: eccccch) "Big Girls Don't Cry" suggests the Ferg has an even stronger shot than I predicted at taking No. 1 for the year. But like I said a couple of weeks ago, Billboard's weird Dec-to-Nov chart year might work against her.

Final thought: hey! MCR's "Teenagers" at No. 99! That's pretty good, right?!

I'm quite surprised that Coco, which has only been out for 5 months, is the number 5 album for all of 2007. The presence of Graduation at number 2 does not surprise me, actually, but Colbie Caillat -- an artist who appeals heavily to consumers who still actually buy lots of CDs [see, Norah Jones @ 14, Feist @ 15, Rascal Flatts @ 19] -- at number 5???

That's scary.

But seriously, I think it's also a harbinger that we are close to the tipping point where digital sales will no longer be a niche component of the overall sales.
