@Maura Johnston: @Al Shipley: And in one of the greatest distortions in recent "chart performance vs. actual impact" history, "Call On Me" actually placed at #1 on the Hot RnB/Hip Hop Songs chart on Billboard...Virgin released a very limited physical single to urban retailers to create a false sense of success, much the way Virgin ALSO did with Mariah Carey's "Loverboy", the lead single from the Soundtrack to the infamous "Glitter".

If anybody still wonders why EMI is in the toilet, well, I just gave 2 examples...

HONEYBFLY

Ironically months before Discipline came out Khia was talking to every magazine (and video prepared for YouTube) she could find saying that 20 Y.O. would've been a major hit if "So Excited" was the lead single and every time Janet performed it live she would give "exposure" to Khia because she was an "underground artist." Even if Khia wasn't in "So Excited" I wouldn't be able to touch that song with a 39 1/2 foot pole.

rad_matter

I've heard "Feedback" a lot more in public than I heard that terrible song from 20 Y.O. that featured Khia and that served as the album's lead single.

A pedantic point, but that album's lead single was actually "Call On Me" featuring Nelly, which peaked higher than both "So Excited" and "Feedback," but was by no means a major hit either. Ugh, picking through Janet's recent discography is such a grisly affair.

Al Shipley

@Chris Molanphy: Agreed, Keyshia is the real deal. She can sing the shit out of those songs, no IDOL reject even holds a candle. "I Remember" will be a very strong contender for Female RnB vocals at the '09 Grammys, mark my words

HONEYBFLY

In an earlier era, Keyshia Cole would be the new Toni Braxton: that album's been pretty consistent since it debuted, even without a major pop crossover. And that 27K copies would probably be near 100K.

Chris Molanphy
