The tidbit that made my jaw drop in that Times article: apparently 'Bucks sold 120k Alicia Keys CDs. That's about 3-5% of her overall total, just at Starbucks, which is sort of amazing for a record they didn't have a hand in releasing.

Caffeine fiends, they like their midtempo piano-playing gals...

Chris Molanphy

Mr. MacKinnon declined to comment for this article, but others briefed on the conflict say that morale in the unit has been shaken by a belief that Mr. Lombard was focused on increasing sales volume without a particular creative vision.

I remember shuddering in horror when the glowing profiles of Mr. Lombard hit the media when the Hear Music endeavor hit the ground. Glad to see all my misgivings were not off-base.

Sidebar: Perez Hilton should totally read and absorb this article. Stat.

the rich girls are weeping

The only record of note that I can recall being released to Starbucks in recent years was the 10 yr anniv of 'Jagged Little Pill'. That seemed edgy...for Starbucks anways.

Now they seem mainly geared towards regular coffee addicts who don't have time to stop at Barnes and Noble to pick up the latest compilation disc of songs reflecting all 18 of the little voices in John Mayer's head.

HoneyB.Fly
