@joshservo: Vampire Weekend are inappropriately huge in the UK. It's almost gross.

Wonky Pop is curated- as far as I can tell- by Popjustice, and the tour includes DJ sets by Annie, so I am all for it (I only really like Alphabeat, but the other two are just fine and Annie is, of course, A+) if only because the success of this tour might allow for a bigger, better Wonky Pop tour in coming years. Pop music is a a great thing- why not do send a phalanx of big new pop bands around the UK, or whereever, to show off that fact?

Nunya B

The minute a-ha unleashed "Take On Me" in 1985, this genre simply could not get any better
True that, though I could definitely hear Frankmusic in the background during a "mall scene" in most any teen comedy of the time (there'd be running, and a stern faced guy shaking his fist from the Orange Julius).

I like Alpha-Beats in the same I like any of these cutesy, bouncy, pop bands from that part of Europe, but I want to punch that bald guy in the face so hard it makes me bite my lip.

Halfwit

So we've got the band from Kidd Video, The Incredible Moses Leroy backed by Art of Noise, and...Some dude.

Sounds like a movement to me. Run with it, UK. Any interest in taking Vampire Weekend under your wing? They could trade style tips with Alpha-Bits over there.

joshservo

"Like a load of laundry just out of the dryer" is a good line, and
apt--the first time I heard "Fascination" was on some British video
channel at 7 in the morning, and afterwards, I'd never felt so psyched
to take a shower(!) and get on the Tube(!!!).

I think you're also right about the commercial prospects,
unfortunately...These guys will be big here in the same parallel
universe that Annie and Robyn will.

Bob Loblaw
