I can, however, understand why it is alienating to a band not depending on that, though I often wonder if DEP depends on beer to pull of their live show... innebriation vs. choreography... aren't both planned in a way?

Sure, they've got all those technical parts and disjointed beats in their songs, but seeing them live is like seeing a great hardcore band rather than Dream Theater.

I'm not. I've got nothing against them, but they're not my type of music. That said, I see nothing wrong with a band wanting to be sure they can put on a good show for people who paid hard earned cash to come see them live.

I've seen plenty of bands that put no effort into their stage show and it shows. Sloppy performance doesn't make me want to see them live again. Prince puts his band through famously brutal hours of rehearsal to be sure everyone is in exactly the right place at the right time both physically and musically. So did Zappa. I hardly think that makes them lesser artists.
