Dia Frampton may not have won the first season of The Voice, but she’s still full speed ahead on her career. Her debut album Red is scheduled to drop December 6, and Frampton’s new single “Don’t Kick The Chair” features an impressive get: Kid Cudi (who has been working on his own WZRD tunes) drops a verse with some sound advice: “If I can make it through, then you can, too… You don’t need no help, you could be better all by yourself.” Check out Dia’s inspiring new song below in her lyric video.

Dia Frampton feat. Kid Cudi – “Don’t Kick The Chair”

As for the meaning behind the phrase “Don’t kick the chair”, Dia explains, “I throw that phrase around at home when we’re complaining about something when, on the other hand, it’s a beautiful day outside. In other words, ‘don’t kick the chair’ is another way of saying, ‘don’t give up,’ because you can’t have the highs without the lows, and there’s no use in getting down about something for too long. You got to start pushing forward at some point.”

Dia’s album Red will also feature a duet with Blake Shelton, who just happened to be her coach on The Voice.
