Kanye West Gives Rare Interview, Says Lil Wayne Is World’s Best Rapper, Slams Kilt Critics

Kanye West took a break from throwing microphones, ranting about corporatism and teasing new music over in Europe to call into Hot 97 for a quick chat with DJ Enuff on The Angie Martinez Show Tuesday (March 5). The impetus for this rare interview? Probably to talk about impending fatherhood, or maybe his next album, or all the Big Concepts he’s been bandying about in the Old World? Nope! Yeezy was reacting to MTV’s annual click-baiting Hottest MCs in the Game list.

West came in at No. 7 in the rankings, and obviously he was not happy about this. He blamed their methodology (“Ain’t nobody bringing up that ‘Diamonds’ remix verse. It wasn’t no verse in a year that was fucking with that verse!”) and fashion biases (“They don’t like Givenchy-Kanye. They don’t like Kanye in a kilt.”), and also came to a strong defense of Cruel Summer.

West was happy for his G.O.O.D. Music signee Big Sean, though, who came in a spot ahead of his boss at No. 6. “I’m happy for Sean, but I feel like he should be on top five,” Kanye said. “The way he’s [been] bodying records, like the way he started off ‘Mercy.'”

Another big claim he made: Lil Wayne is “the number one rapper in the world.” Yeezy lumped Weezy in with guys like Eminem and Jay-Z. By the way, Tunechi immediately tweeted out his gratitude after hearing the high praise:

Kanye then finished up by telling a quick story about how he got MTV’s Sway his first television, before hanging up on DJ Enuff. Listen to the full interview below:
