Skylar Grey makes the pop life look good, which is one reason why we were so thrilled we could invite her to perform at our Styld.by summer celebration, thrown in partnership with Gap and staged at the brand’s store at The Grove in Los Angeles Thursday evening (May 9). The superstar singer-songwriter performed tracks from her upcoming album Don’t Look Down (out July 9) and helped us kick off summer in style.

First impressions are the most lasting, and Skylar started the event right on time, earning her serious anti-diva points for punctuality. The Wisconsin native kicked off the set at the piano with “Wear Me Out,” one of her new songs from Don’t Look Down. She managed to mix in some of her new tracks from LP, while still delivering fan favorites to the intimate, devoted crowd.

Watch Skylar perform her award-winning composition “Love The Way You Lie” above.

Famous for her collaborations and songwriting for artists — including the likes of Dr. Dre, Eminem, Rihanna and Diddy— Skylar’s fans were treated to solo performances that featured her either at the piano, with a guitar slung across her chest or simply singing with mic in hand.

Skylar’s setlist:
“Wear Me Out”
“Coming Home”
“C’mon Let Me Ride”
“Dance Without You”
“Final Warning”
“Glow In The Dark”
“White Suburban”
“I Need A Doctor”
“Love The Way You Lie”

All in all, the shy but engaging singer was playful throughout the half-hour performance, and warmly chatted with fans at the end of her set. Her unassuming demeanor belies a haunting voice and talent for making music out of heartbreak.

Find out all about Skylar Grey here, ahead of this summer’s release of her debut Kidinakorner/Interscope LP Don’t Look Down.
