Gawker got their hands on an audio recording of a conversation allegedly involving Kanye West and some musician friends at a New York City bar immediately after the infamous Taylor Swift VMAs interruption on September 13, 2009. It certainly sounds like Yeezy in the clip — both the voice and the content — but there’s absolutely no context in the conversation, so it’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on.

West first mentions that Beyonce should have won over Taylor Swift, but his reasoning has something to do with his own passion and prolific writing abilities: ” I canceled appointments to rewrite! I fuckin’ care! […] Because I did that, Taylor Swift cannot win over Beyoncé! Because I wrote my verse in two days, Taylor Swift cannot beat Beyoncé.” Even with context, it would be hard to decode that line of thinking.

One thing was clear, though: Pink got the most shade in the recently surfaced recording. West posits that he wasn’t invited to perform at the 2009 VMAs because of race, and used Pink as his example. “Pink performed twice! Two songs? How the fuck Pink perform two songs and I didn’t even get asked to perform ‘Heartless.’ ‘Heartless’ is the biggest song of the year! It had the most spins of the first quarter! I don’t know that Pink song! But I noticed that she’s pink!”

West also throws in a hilarious “Fuck MTV,” and mentions Eminem, though to be honest we can’t tell if he’s criticizing Em or not. At first blush he  seems to be outraged throughout the whole thing, until you realize he’s likely playing for laughs — and we all know he likes to do that. Anyway, hear the whole bizarre thing over at Gawker.
