Stream The Weeknd’s ‘Kiss Land’

The Weeknd‘s proper commercial debut, Kiss Landdrops September 10, and the shadowy Abel Tesfaye is streaming the album for a week ahead of its street date. It was already clear from the title cut and tracks like “Belong To The World” and “Live For” that Tesfaye is drawing from a more expansive sonic palette this time around, and much of the album delivers on that promise. The sexual depravity isn’t quite as pronounced, as he shifts his focus from the numbing effects of sex to the pitfalls of fame — so the uneasiness and brooding is still intact — but Tesfaye is taking everything on with more firepower.

The result is just as sinister and dark as his mixtape fare, but not nearly as claustrophobic. Stream Kiss Land over at NPR.
